Thought I would begin a thread and allow everyone to list one of their "memorable moments using a pistol.

Here is one of my fondest -

Proven Under Fire!
While I know this is a long one - I hope that everyone will read it.

WOW! Beretta - well let me begin many years ago when my issued sidearm was a US Army Colt M1911. Yeah - so I'm dated. Of course being in the SF has its perks, like a fully customized M1911 that could shoot the male appendage of a flea at 25 yds. LOL - yeah I know it was only 15 Yds.

Any way, I was fortunate to get one of the first production M9's delivered to the Army and like everyone else I thought of it as a Gag Gift. Of course that was when it was laying on the armorer’s shelf. I picked up my M9 and it was LOVE at first FEEL. I had never held a pistol in my hand that felt so ergonomically correct. Course the pip-squeak 9mm cartridge had to go. First question to the armorer was where is the .45 model. Of course we know the answer to that one.

We went out and fired the standard production issued M9 (B4 any SF modifications) and I was very impressed with my first 10 rounds. 25 Yds - about 2" inches low and maybe and inch left. Not bad you say. Well the COOL part was the group was just a little over 2". WOW! this thing can really shoot - keep in mind this was a stock issued M9 and the first time I ever fired it. Of course you also must keep in mind that I was averaging about 1500 - 2000 rounds per week from a pistol (M1911) in keeping our skills up.

Fast forward to 1989 - 92. Carried a very tweaked Army Issue M9 loaded with Federal 115 Hydra-Shok during DS/DS. Although many consider a pistol to be (only) a defensive weapon there are many times an SF operative will use it offensively as the weapon of choice (or availability).

During DS/DS I used that M9 numerous times in offensive as well as defensive postures and IT NEVER FAILED"! I can recall at least two times during that period that my Beretta M9 is directly responsible for me being here now to write this. Of course there are probably many more but there was so much firing going on that it would be impossible to tell which round stopped the threat.

Fast forward to my recent trip(s) to the desert(s). Different M9 but same results. IT NEVER FAILED! I have always carried factory Beretta Mags in all my Beretta's (still do that today). I have experienced one misfire in all of the thousands of rounds I put through M9's and of course my favorite - the Cougar 8000F. That misfire was a direct result of a Gov't ball round with the primer loaded backwards.

I carried my personal Cougar (backup, concealed) on the last two visits to the land of sand. Both the M9 and 8000F were carrying 115 HP's +p+. In September of 2005 myself and two other operatives came under heavy fire from about 7 - 10 bad guys and were receiving fire from multiple locations. One of my team members and I went around left and right flanks with only our M9's and my Cougar while the third person continued to fire using two fully Auto weapons (rifles) to draw fire and keep them believing we were all still in the one location. Needless to say - all three of us are here today!

As for concealed carry today - the same Cougar is my favorite. Since the age of 18 I have believed that the only weapon you should carry is one that you have absolute faith in - when you pull the trigger it will go bang. Anything less is not an option. Considering I have a family to protect in today’s world - I will pick a Beretta any day.

There is no better testimate to a tool than the faith its user has in it and himself. My family and I thank God for Beretta!

Respectfully,

Dez

Great story Dez. I would like to hear the rest of that story and I am sure you have many more stories like it.
