Yesterday Walmart had ten boxes of the PDX1 in 45 cal. First time in two years that I have seen them with personal protection ammo. Does anyone know how this ammo shoot. @ $21.97 for a box of 20 I would like to know before I have to shoot up one of these boxes. My RIA commander does great with everything except the premium Federal hydroshocks.

I carry the Federal HS in my Colt 1911A1 and have never experienced a problem. Just goes to prove - no 2 pistols are alike.

The PDX1 is a superb round. They would be my preference but since the Federal HS is supplied and mandated that is what I carry.

I think you will like the PDX1 and should not have any issues with it. One of the guys I shoot with carries a Wilson and shoots 1 - 1.25" 25 Yd groups with the PDX1.

In any case - you should fire at least 100 - 150 rounds before carrying it for your SD ammo to insure your pistol likes the diet with NO complaints.

I recently have been trying to decide on a better SD round than basic WWB JHP (as I bought 100 of them about a year ago when ammo was hard to come by, and rare to come by in-stock at stores).

People swear by the Speer Gold Dot GDHPs, and that is what I was leaning towards as well (250 on gunbroker for $139 BIN for .40s&w, not near as bad as $22/20 at other places for the same stuff) for SD ammo.

Other people prefer Winchester Black Talon (now Ranger-T I believe). Haven't shot this one, but Black Talon is a bit hard to find as it's been rebadged.

Then I came across the Winchester PDX1, and have read that it is what the FBI issues to their agents. There's even an article on the Winchester website, dated 1/5/2009, about it. The next time I order some SD ammo online, I think I'll make it a collection of a bunch of different variants, shoot them all and decide which I like best. Costly, yes, but cheap insurance.

I say pick up a box or two, and shoot them. If nothing else, you'll either find a new SD ammo that costs a buck a round, or you'll find out that your firearm doesn't like it or you simply don't like it.
