While at the range on Sunday testing out my new (to me) G22, I got to talking with a guy at the other end of the 50yd range. We got to talking about Glock trigger pulls after he helped me attempt to diagnose the problem with my G22 and why it wouldn't eject, etc.
Anyways, long story short, he pulled out his Fenix LD10 light after mentioning concealed carrying. I checked it out and became intrigued. Turns out, he is a representative for Fenix Outfitters and said if I wanted one, it would be $55.
Once I got home, I looked Fenix up. Read the reviews, price shopped and $55 is exactly what they sell for online...plus shipping. After knowing that I've been shopping around for a high quality LED light for a long time and realizing that this one just walked into my lap, I called him up after work today and met him at Taco Bell to pick one up.
I've got to say, this light is SOLID! The case is very rugged, it feels great in my hands and even came with a belt clip, a holster, a lanyard and even an extra rubber pushbutton. Best of all, it runs off of AA batteries, none of that CR123 stuff that kills your pocket long after you spend a lot of money on the light.
The light has 6 modes: Super bright (132 lumens), and a very fast flashing strobe that is sure to blind anyone while catching them off guard (same brightness). If you twist the barrel a quarter turn, it gives you the other 4 modes: Low (9 lumens), medium (50 lumens), high (105 lumens) and SOS (where it actually blinks out SOS in morse code). It also remembers the last setting you had it on when you turned it off, so theres no more expecting the dim setting and being blinded with light.
Anyways, just wanted to post up my initial thoughts as well as Jeremy's contact information so you can get a hold of him directly if you are interested. He also had a Fenix TK12 that I looked at, but it's definitely too big for everyday carry. If you want something he doesn't have in stock, he can order it and get it quickly.
Email him at jeremyc091(at)aol.com. If you would rather give him a call, send me a PM and I'll forward you his phone number.
As Richard from Riclin Training says: "The vast majority of defensive encounters occur in low light conditions". Having a source of light in a time of need could be VERY beneficial. And $55 is a lot more reasonable than some of the other brands out there running well over $100.
