Anyone out there have the M1A?? I have a Springfield Armory M1A and man it is a pleasure to shoot. The ammo is kinda expensive but it really is a hoot to shoot. Get out there and touch someone at 1000 yards...

Hey daqgodave,

glad to see another M1A owner on here. I have a collection of M1 Garrands, M1A's and 1-M14. I also have 2 - M1D sniper rifles.

One of them is the M1D I carried in Vietnam. Lucky to have called DCM many years ago and placed a tracer on the SN in case it ever came through there. 8 years later it did and they called me. I actually managed to trace it from when I turned it in till I got it for keeps. Since I was one of the last US forces to leave vietnam and with the advent of the US Army moving to a different Sniper rig I found out that my rifle was never re-issued to anyone. It had been in storage all those years until it was turned in to the DCM. I will try to get some pics out on the site for you to see.

By the way, 1000 yds with a good M1 or M1A is just warming up.

Have fun with your rifle! You might want to check into reloading. When I bought my first equipment I showed my wife that I could reload for half the cost of factory. Little did I know it only meant I would shoot twice as much :).

Would love to see the pic's of it. I'll post some pic's of mine. My 13 year old grandson loves to shoot it.

As for the M1 Garrand I only got to spin one when I was on the Systems Command Drill Team way back when. We shot blanks out of them for parades and shows.

Think that is great that you got the one you carried in Vietnam.
Will get those pic's posted today.

Hey Descreet38,
Here are a couple of Pic's of the M1A. The one at the range was just after I got it and my son and I were shooting it.

It has a 30 X 50 Target Sports scope on it.

I have two sons in the Navy and one of them was a Weapons Training Instructor with the SeaBees 31st Readiness Group and he carried one when he was training Marines at Fort Hunter Liget in California. He liked to sneak up on foxholes at night when they were sleeping and fire off a round or two to get their attention..

Thanks for the Pics. Looks great. Descreet38, is this what you are mounting your 3k scope on??

No - that would be a Barrett .50 caliber Sniper rifle. I'm tired of just doing one mile - I like the 1.5 to 2 mile thing. :) BTW 1.5 miles - accuracy with a good shooter. + or - 1.5 inches. 2Miles + or - 2 inches.

For center of mass not an issue for either the variation or what the projectile will do when it hits something.
