Greetings,
On more then several occasions while checking-in baggage and gun with Southwest Airlines . . . and after filling out their gun card, the Southwest counter person demands that I unlock my 'hard-side' gun case to inspect. Then they will take the unlocked case, with the unloaded gun, loaded mags(s) that I keep inside a mag pouch to protect the primers, behind the wall evidently to have the contents inspected by a TSA person. As I understand it - the rules on Southwest web-site says that no one is suppose to remove my unlocked gun case from my immediate presents and out of my control and view.
When they return with the unlocked gun case I notice that every button, lever, slide action and ammo pouch has been messed with - along with finger prints over the finish. I keep the locked gun case inside my normal check-in luggage bag.
I don't know these people or if the Southwest counter person is some deranged/disgruntled employee that would try and load the gun in private behind the screen wall and go to work on somebody or not. This check-in procedure annoys me to no end. I would rather they just have the TSA person come out from behind the wall and do what they got'a do in my presents.
The worst place is Sacramento, Burbank and once it happened at Seattle. I even take a copy of their web-site rules to remind them not to remove the gun case. They don't care . . .
Anybody have problems like this with check-in carry guns?
Thanks for letting me rant . . .
