now that I got to watch the video you posted, the blackhawk serpa is not the one in the video but that would be a good reason to not to get just any holster made of kydex

As a firearms instructor, I can not recommend the Sherpa holster. I have seen one accidental discharge as an individual was drawing his handgun and his finger slipped from the release on the holster and slapped the trigger. I have also heard of other similar incidents. Some of the national level firearms trainers have banned the Sherpa from their classes for that reason.
There are better holster options available.

I ordered one on the 14th of the month and got it in on the 20th of the month, and so far I can say I have found no reason for anyone to have an accidental discharge if they follow the directions.so far I like it and have no issuses with drawing and finger placement.if I see any problems I will let everyone know ok

that video is with a first generation fobus paddle holster. and it's not the kydex that broke but the rivets that hold the paddle to the holsters itself. fobus as a good company is constantly updating it's design as the technology changes. i use a fobus currently and have had people try to break it. no dice. they are much better than they where 15ish years ago. and if you are worried about retention, it's designed so that the only possible way to pull it out is directly up my body line and slightly forward. I've had cops try to remove it from the holster and where unable to.

with the serpa you have the finger tab that has to be pressed and it also has the retention so it is a level 2 holster so for I like it.

i use fobus holsters for the same reason i use glocks. when i need it i need it. no safeties, buttons et. Pull it out and pull the trigger.

same here but I end up on my tractor bushhogging or something else that could make it fall out and when I go over to my moms house there is my little brother who is mentaly handicap I feel the need to have something to keep him safe although he has never brothered to even touch a gun and has been around them like me(most of his life) he does not know how to shoot them but when something is in his way he just moves it and that leaves room for bad things to happen with guns and the like, plus he comes over to my house with mom and just to be on the safe side I put it where he cannot get to it, but where it can be gotten if its needed. better safe than sorry.

ya believe it or not i can hang upside down, run and jump et with the fobus and it doesn't get in the way or fall out or even move around. its very secure. so all in all its a great deal for 20ish bucks. just my .02. I have heard good and bad about serpas though i have never used one myself.

hey i realize that it's been almost a year later..and Frankly, i'm not sure if you're even going to get this post but i was wondering what your final decision on the SERPA holster is?
I've been using one since i joined the Army, only in for 3 years now..but after using some of the B.S. holsters i was issued, i forked out the money for my SERPA drop leg holster, and then when I deployed switched to a belt rig and one that goes on my vest, all SERPA Blackhawk holsters. never had an issue with them and with the tension screw i make it to where no one but me can get it out.
keep me posted?

I still have it and use it and I cannot say anything bad about them it works just like it is meant to work, I find myself using my don hume leather holster more than anything now that it is broke in. the serpa holster is a good holster and I will tell everyone who wants a holster thats not leather to buy one, I will start using the serpa holster again in time I just have a hard time getting away from the old trusty leather.
They issued me one early on and I says sure this is slick. Got some crap in it an the button didn't want to work.
I threw it away.
it offers no protection from anything and like any mechanical gadget, it can and will break.
I'm back to a UM 84 when I do have need to carry a service auto in the field (thankfully very seldom) and the troops I work with know why, and guess what, they are scrounging UM84's when they deploy. We haven't bought a SERPA in a couple of years and aren't likely to start.

Rtuck,
I haven't had the chance to use a leather holster. Pro's/Con's that you've come across?
Sam,
I completely agree about the mechanical aspect of any piece of equipment and it's unavoidable habit to break when you need it the most. But I've had mine for 3 years, and with any proper maintenance, comes great use and results from equipment, I believe.
I know what you mean with dirt or other small pieces of debris getting into the catch/release button, I've had it happen only once or twice and was about to just take off the holster, tip it upside down and knock the debris out with no problem.
But as we all are aware of... to each is own.
Also, as always put out as a reminder of sorts; 'its just my .02'.
It's you butt, go right ahead.
It is my sincere hope that any of my potential opponents all go buy one right away :D

Pros of the serpa holster is that it has the retention and easier to reholster your weapon
Con it can get crap under the release button
leather holster pros it pulls closer to the body and in my opinion more comfortable
con it not as easy to reholster your weapon
I am sure their is more pros and cons to each one but the ones I just listed are just the few off the top of my head

Gerntlemen - if you buy one of the custom built leather holsters for a firearm there will be no issue in re-holstering. Myself - I prefer the Milt Sparks line.
I have at least one of them for almost every pistol I own.
The only con (somewhat) is the waiting period but this is a true hand made custom holster and IMHO the finest holster product on the market.
