I am venting I guess. I went to BIG 5 today to buy a Ruger 10 22 rifle(stainless) with the synthetic stock. So I go there and I try to buy it but I dont have my military orders that sent me to New Mexico. So I drive home and come back in about an hour and its gone. The salesman laughs and said I just sold it 20 minutes ago. There is another stainless one with a woodstock and I thought about getting that one. So I show him my orders and it doenst have an original signature. We dont use pen the sign orders its all electronic these days. I dont know why they didn't tell me that in the first place. So I end up with NOTHING today. I was a little bummed out.

Why did you need your orders?

Law is that to be a "resident" you have to show that the military assigned you to the state you are buying in...otherwise you are treated as an out of stater and that just makes a world of problems that I know I don't want to encounter. I've ran into the same problem when I was going to buy the boy's rifle in cruces...ended up ordering it here in town rather than driving back. Don't go without them anymore though!

I know that it's personal thing, but if you have a NM driver license and you've lived here for six months, don't that make you local?

Yeah probably, but as a military member, I don't have to renew my Iowa drivers license as long as I have an active military ID. Why bother with changing drivers license, residence, voting, etc every few years when the military gives me orders if I don't have to.

That's why I said it's a personal thing. A local driver license will get you by some of this BS. But it's your call.

Move the ends? Where were they to begin with?

I guess a lesson we both learned the hard way.
