Is there anyone here who know or studies martial arts? I have always wanted to learn Aikido. I worked with a guy once who knew it and liked to practice on me. Ouch!!:(

Aikido is performed by blending with the motion of the attacker and redirecting the force of the attack rather than opposing it head-on. This requires very little physical energy, as the aikidōka (aikido practitioner) "leads" the attacker's momentum using entering and turning movements. The techniques are completed with various throws or joint locks.[3] Aikido can be categorized under the general umbrella of grappling arts.

I took some martail arts when I was a kid back in 87 to 89 and it has come in handy a few times but I dont remeber much of it now, I just seem to be able to use it when I need it.Have you checked out the S.P.E.A.P SYSTEM I talked about in another forum?

One of my uncles took Akido for a while pretty good stuff. It will catch your attacker off guard if you know what your doing.

Nice stuff. I have seen an akido demonstration before, those guys are nuts. Only thing that would stop them is a BG that knows how to use a gun.

Martial Artists worst nightmare - The guy who quickly backed up two step and pulled the trigger.

Sorry couldn't pass up what my self defense instructor taught us was rule number one. His meaning was to be stealthy and hold the surprise till the last instant so that your opponent didn't react too soon.

self defense is a total concept. you have to be at least as good with your hands as you are with a gun. you always have your hands with you right?

Jizzle, I could not agree more. The use of the handgun, shotgun, or rifle is as much a Martial Art as the guy with the sword, or bustin bricks. I speak from the standpoint of being one who trains in, and trains people in both.

I have been active in the Martial Arts for 47 years, I am a full time Peace Officer(27+), and Teach Martial Art/Defensive/Concealed Handgun Instructor/Tactics and Firearms on the side. We believe in teaching the total package.

It is just a matter of having the right tool, for the right job, and praying that you never have to use it.

Great thread guys!

if an unarmed guy physically attacks you and you have your gun on you, three are going to be some legal ramifications for you shooting him unfortunatly. personally if he attacks someone who's armed he just had a bad day but, unfortunatly the courts see it differently, unless he was much larger than you or younger or some other circumstances.

Jizzle, Speaking from a law enforcement stand point, the litmus test in all 50 states will depend on how fearful you where in regard to losing your life. One must remember that just because you don't see the weapon on the person attacking you, doesn't mean they don't have one.

I have seen too many gang-bangers start with fist, and then pull out a piece when they start getting their butts kick.

The mindset we teach is to always expect, and believe the person has a weapon, knife, club, or gun. Each are very easily concealed. Two basic themes are taught, if you are attacked, and you have no firearm, you are taught to engage. You are taught not to disengage until the opponent is disabled.

If you are attacked and you have a weapon, you are taught how to disengage to access your weapon. Either way, if you respond incorrectly you are in deep trouble. If you let him have your way, he may use your weapon against you. I will add something this, he will most likely not be alone.

The quote goes, "someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it was empty." Nuff Said!

dragon, unfortunately non-leos are not given the same benefit of the doubt as leos concerning shootings. there are many many instances where someone was afraid for their life, shot the unarmed person and they ended up with multi year sentences. I have to go to work very soon, but later today I'll post the links siting the cases i'm refering to.

I just think it's a really really good idea to be able to handle yourself without a weapon the same as with one. Your mind is your greatest asset.

Looks very nice, regarding the opening Aikido video.I have took classes in Krav Maga and have had some informal training in Wing Chun,Jujitsu and Silat.Il have to look into Aikido more.

The best advice i ever got was "Do it again! You dont have time to think when someone attacks you.Do it again! Know your move and do not hesitate!"

Cant help but love a straightforward instructor.

As regards post 43 by blkdragon,so true.Thats why we go over quick takedowns, arm and wrist breaks. The longer the fight, the more dangerous.
