I was just wondering when you guys stock up on ammo how much FMJ and how much HollowPoint you buy. I am a 70% Hollow Point and 30% FMJ guy. I do buy FMJ ammo but I use it for target practice and doesn't count for storage. I do store FMJ also but not very much (hence the 30%). I figure Hollow Point and EFMJ type ammo would be harder to find and/or more expensive in the months and years to come. 70/30 might be unbalanced, I guess, but thats my style of ammo buying. What do you guys tend to do ?

I'm only using JHP for one reason: Personal defense. I only keep a few magazines full around or a few cylinders full. All the rest is FMJ or 158gn lead. Reason being if I ever go to court, I want to show I used factory ammo specifically designed for self defense with an established data base of performance showing how far away I was etc. If it ever gets to the point where I run out of factory JHP ammo, it really won't matter too much because the courts won't be operating by that time anyway.
So, mostly solid nose or FMJ to answer your question.

Without going and doing all the math I think I keep my inventory on most hand gun rounds at about 3 FMJ to 1HP.
Almost all of my reloading is in FMJ. I spend my money on factory self-defense HP's. I also do not recommend anyone carry a reload because of the legal aspects surrounding it.
I do shoot quite a bit of factory HP through all my pistols to ensure two things.
1. It confirms functionality with a particular ammo
2. Although I reload as close to factory spec of the HP as possible there is nothing like running a 1,000 to 1,500 carry loads per month.

i keep roughly enough hollow points (speer gold dots or comparable) to reload each my my magazines twice. other than that i just have range rounds for whatever. I don't currently reload defensive ammo. I could, i just don't atm.
