Hello. I joined today hoping to get some great ideas on the best options in carrying. I am not a big girl (5'5" 129 lbs) and find it difficult to carry on my body during the summer. I carry a Kimber crimson carry II currently in the small of my back or in my SafePac purse, but would rather have it on my body. In the summer I am usually in shorts and a tank or tee.
I recently bought an AMT .380 backup as it is smaller than my Kimber and I thought it might be a lot easier to hide in the summer...however I like the knockdown of the .45 and would prefer to carry it.
Any ideas?

Hello and welcome to the site. We are happy you joined.
Question for you, do you wear your shirt tucked or untucked? Also, what kind of holster do you use now with your Kimber?

Normally tucked, but since I started carrying untucked. My holster is a soft Uncle Mike's Sidekick as it has a higher back that is velvety (is that a word?) and so soft against my back.

Welcome aboard. You might try this holster. http://smartcarry.com/ Do a Google search and you'll see a girl wearing it. The website also has the owner's daughter wearing one with shorts and a cutoff t-shirt. I have one and it's pretty comfortable. You'll trade some accessability for comfort and concealment. Worth the trade off as far as I'm concerned. Hope this helps.

Thank you. I will look into that as an option. There are so many sites on the internet that after a while you just go blind!

Check out this guy as well. He has a good selection of concealment holsters. I ordered a IWB Tuckable from him. I haven't got it yet, but should soon. His prices are pretty good as well.

My thanks. Can you let me know how much thicker the holster makes your gun? (awkward way to word that..) I bought the soft holster because it is "Barely there" I tried out a few holsters at last weekends gun show and my father said they left quite a bulge in the small of my back (Can not see my rear view on my own!) and it felt conspicuous. I probably need to consider an overshirt. It would cover my gun regardless of the bulge. Oh, just wondering what do you carry normally?

I do believe the leather will be thinner than the Uncle Mike's. So it should bulge less. I carry a Beretta PX4 Storm SC and sometimes my Keltec PF9. I like to carry IWB holster either on my strong side or rear hip.

I use this holster in the small of my back and carry my Kahr CW9

If you order a holster just make sure its a stocking item or you will have to wait on it

Hi WarpKatt - welcome to the site. I have placed several links in the women’s forum and in the holster forum dealing with the specifics of the female carry.

I do wonder about the choice of small of the back. Take it from my experience in carrying for 30+ years that the SOB is one of the worst ways to carry for three specific reasons.

1. Takes more time from recognition to actual presenting on target.
2. If ever you print or uncover, everyone around you will know you are carrying and place you in a vulnerable position. Anyone behind you can snatch and run and now you are without means of protection as well as losing the gun.
3. If you are ever caught with your back too close to a wall or are pushed backwards you lose the ability to get to your best source of defense. Since I said three reasons I'll lump the last in here. Put anything the shape and hardness of a gun into the small of you back and the accidently fall on it. I assure you - you will never forget it nor do it again.

Again Welcome and jump in and have fun on the site.

I was told the same thing by my instructor. If you ever fall and land on your back when carrying in the middle of the back, you are going to be in a lot of pain.

Warpkatt,

Have you given any thought to appendix carry? Your ability to carry in the appendix area is very dependent on your body shape, but if your shape allows it, appendix carry has many advantages.

It is very concealable (again, depending on your body style), is quick to access, can be accessed with either hand, and is easy to defend since your hands are generally in front of your handgun.

I have evolved to appendix carry and prefer it to any other method.

How do you like your Kimber? I have never shot one before but help one once or twice. The gun shop had to pry it out of my hands to give it back to them.:D
