SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) The Senate voted 31-9 on Monday to eliminate the requirement that New Mexicans licensed to carry concealed handguns take a refresher course two years after they obtain or renew their licenses.
The bill's sponsor, Senate Republican Leader Stuart Ingle of Portales, said the two-hour course is unnecessary and creates paperwork and cost for licensees.
The requirement for a four-hour refresher course when licenses are renewed, every four years, would remain in the law.
The bill went to the House with no debate.
