I received a letter today about serving on an advisory committee for the local shooting range. Things that we will be discussing are hours, rules and regulations, scheduling, and expansion of the range. They are trying to better the range and better it by this committee. If any of you have any ideas, thoughts (negative or nice), or comments on what you would like to see changed or improved, please let me know. Respond to this post and let me go to work to try and accomplish your ideas.
Thank you for your help.

Yeah, the one in La Luz. It's the only one open to the public in Otero county except for Dry Canyon which has no facilities. They have these every now and then. Go ahead and put your two cents in.
Laws of Life # 16. Opportunities always look bigger after they have passed.
Oh Yeah, It's 6:00 and I'm here, what's all the hub bub, Bub?

Well, I dont think its all that bad. The hours seem fine as well. The range I went to before had a FFL and I would get my guns sent there. That would be a GREAT addition but that might not be possible. Also, I thought the range had a website but I cant find it anymore.

possibly a fam course for those new to the range. a quick 30min deal that you have to complete prior to becoming a member or using the range. some of the people that go there haven't a clue.
some of the things that they could cover would be:
1. the 4 rules of handling a firearm. i don't think anyone can possibly hear them enough. IMHO opinion you should have to recite those rules standing at attention prior to any gun purchase. :)
2. Range etiquette. IE, all chambers clear/set on bench or holstered prior to someone stepping over the line to set targets/retrieve targets collect their brass et.
3. Quick run down of the pits/ranges and their uses.
4. schedule of classes and or competitions and where to find said schedule for future reference.

Sidney Paul Gordon Shooting Range
Draft Customer Survey
The Shooting Range Committee is looking at ways to improve the operation of the range as well as ways to increase the self sufficiency of the range and we need your help. Please take a few moments and fill out this survey and return it to the Range by April 10, 2009.
What do you like about the range?
What areas do you feel could be improved (please be specific) and what should be done to improve them?
Would you like to see the following be developed at the range (check all that apply):
____ Longer range shooting (600 yards)
____ Sporting Clays
____ Trap and Skeet
____ Other shooting activities (please list)
As you are aware, the prices of everything have gone up over the years but the range fees have remained the same. As we strive to develop the range so that it can become self sufficient it may be necessary to increase the fees. What do you feel would be a reasonable daily range fee (considering that this is one of the best developed ranges in southern New Mexico)?
You can copy and paste it to an email. Thanks everyone.

BMan,
I would like to see more steel targets on the range. The large armor plates on the 50 and 200 yd ranges are too big to be much of a challenge.
I know steel is expensive so if Jay can't find something appropriate for the GP ranges, maybe at least spray painting some smaller circles on the armor would help.
