Which one do you think is the best 1911 either on the market or ever manufactured?

kimbers pretty much rock. you have to put a few hundred through em before they start functioning correctly (break in period) but once you get that done, they'll never let you down and feel/shoot just rediculously nice.

I have more than several of these in just about every flavor. My top pick is actually a Colt Custom M1911A1 followed closely by a S&W 4506 from their custom shop.

The best ever 1911 I have shot was an RIA frame with Essex slide custom job. It was built by a close friend of my dad's who has since passed away. The interesting part of this is that his name was Bob Millet. If you don't know who this is, he is the man responsible for the design of the original Colt Compact 1911. He designed it for the Army when he worked at the Rock Island Arsenal and his first five prototypes were built on non serial numbered National Matches the Army provided him and one of them just turned up and is about to be auctioned off soon at the Rock Island Arsenal, Illinois. His son is still building custom 1911's the same way his father did and they are some of the best 1911's.
I'll try and track down a link that shows the one up for auction. I saw a hard copy flyer about the auction while home recently.

I should clarify, he designed the commander frame, and I have yet to lacate anything online. I'll have to call my dad and try to get some more details.

I have a few 1911s. Kimbers, Springers and a Taurus. The nicest has to be one of the Kimbers. It went back to the factory for a reliability issue and came back with a complete new slide, trigger and action job. It is a real joy to shoot and if you are are on your game it can put them in one big ugly hole at 25 yards with a smooth as silk action and the best trigger I've ever pulled on a non-target weapon. Unfortunately, it's the one I gave my wife (before the action job) and she ain't giving it up.
Treat stress like your dog would....piss on it and walk away :D
