Some think they're too big for a carry piece, but still, any fans of John Brownings masterwork?

I am a fan on the 1911, However I do not own one. My first 1911 was a Para Ordnance P14-45. It was a wonderful shooting pistol right out of the box. over the years I have owned a Springfield loaded and a Kimber Eclipes II and I know this will sound bad but the BEST 1911 I have ever owned was a Taurus PT1911. I am one of those people who find the pistol somewhat heavy to carry unless I use a shoulder rig. I dont really see me owning another 1911 in .45 acp but I would like to own one in a .38 Super. At one time Taurus was suppose to bring out their 1911's in .40 S&W, 9MM and .38 Super. But that has yet to happen and I really dont know if it will. If it does though I will be the first to order one in the .38 Super. Just my .02 cents, Be Safe, Dave

Big fan here. I currently have 9 in different variants and makers.

My favorite is a M1911 my dad carried since back in the early 40's. Another of my favorites is a M1991A1 model 80 match. It is a tack deiver out to 25 feet. The 1911 series is a lot of fun to shoot and while it is considered a large gun I find that it conceals as good or better than most of the modern hi-cap firearms.

I sometimes carry my Kimber just to take it out of the safe room once in a while. I also take several different guns to the range when I go so as to maintain proficiency with each type.

:p Descreet, I figured you would have one or two. I got my first taste in the Army and have liked them ever since.

Mdbullet, I have had to opportunity to shoot a 38 super. Not much for a defensive load but what a sweet shooter!

Colt 45, man what a significant bummer . That would piss me off to no end.

Tblt44, I have a couple CZs. I went to the stainless guide rods because the plastic was showing some galling that worried me, but other than that, once they're broke in they're very nice pistols that are comfortable shooters and accurate as well. After my 1911s they're my favorites.

I don't own a 1911, but it was the first semi auto I ever shot. My dad owns one and taught me to shot pistol with it. He also has a Browning HiPower in 9mm that has a similar build. Love both of those guns. In fact when I bought my M&P 45, I selected it because of it's similar feel to the 1911. It has the ambi-thumb safety, with the small palm swell it has a familiar feel. I know it's not the same as the 1911, but more of the familiar feel I was looking for compared with others I was looking at.

I have carried my 1911 before..and comfortably as I use a fanny pack type rig...worn to front right.

When in the auto , I leave between seat , near.

I am glad there are so many variety's and pistols for all ....for my discretion though....it must be a 5 " barrel and .45 acp to be a 1911....

I have an Auto Ordinance 1911. It has had some work done on it, its been ramped and ported, and a few other things that make nice to shoot. It is a little heavy for concealed carry, but its perfect for open carry. When asked why I carry such a cannon, I tell them so I won't have to shoot anyone, but if I do I won't need to empty the magazine to stop them. I too carried one back in 71-73. Saved my life more than once.

I own and carry daily a Springfield MilSpec .45 5" bbl model, and wouldn't feel dressed without it. I use an Uncle Mike shoulder holster, modified by having the adjustments made perm. by sewing, so the buckles can't let go. (Had that happen once too often!) I wear it all day, EVERY day, and its like its not even there. Of course I'm a big guy, 6'2" and 300 pounds. On the FBI silhouette target used for CC range testing, I print out a 97-98 score most times for the combined rapid and slow fire sections. I carry with Winchester Silver Tip 185 grain Hollowpoints. I shoot this as both practice and carry ammo. The only thing done to the gun is a Teflon treatment to the internals. Work to be done is a tritium night sight set to be added, a threaded bbl for a compensator I've designed, and lapping the rail/slide area to get a truly smooth surface for reduced fiction. I mount a set of Laser grips for it and have the laser aimed at 21 feet off a rest. All in all, its is a gun I trust, love, and maintain like my life might depend on it, as it well may one day.

That's nice! I own a Springfield loaded in Stainless and wish I would have gone with the GI Mil-Spec. So many things you can do with that pistol if you're into building your own "custom" 1911. I don't think you can buy a better platform. Even if you do nothing to it; it's still a great pistol that looks great too.

Here's my loaded... I love the grips so I packed them away. It wears flat black aluminum double diamond pattern grips now.

Did you make those snake panels yourself? I like them and have thought about making some if I happen across a rattlesnake. I'm in AZ and my neighbors on either side of me have had them show up in their yards. I've been lucky so far. I've got kids and dogs so I'm not hoping to see any but have a plan if I do...
