I received my CCL yesterday in the mail. I couldn't believe it took 17 weeks to receive. In my elation, I turned over my license and noticed it said .40 or smaller under caliber, which would have been fine if I hadn't qualified with a .45 and hadn't just purchased one a week and a half ago. I called the state and apparently after waiting for 17 weeks it turns out the instructors after action report failed to mention that I qualified with a .45 as well as a .40 caliber weapon. I contacted the instructor and was told it would be straightened out. However, to get a corrected replacement I have to return my license which I had to wait 17 weeks to receive in the first place. I'm having a hard time letting it go.. Did I mention it took 17 weeks to receive????

Well, congrats and my sorrows at the same time. Why can't they just issue you another one without sending it back to them?

wow. that's awesome. (heaaavy sarcasm). That's pretty much the worst thing ever. Why do you have to return that one? Why does your getting a new license hinge on that? That doesn't make sense.

I think it has something to do with not having two licenses. They can't insure you will send them the old one unless they require an exchange. That's my best guess.

I see that Grampa hasn't commented yet, so here is from his Laws of Life...
#7. For every action, there is an equal and opposite government program.
It's not often that in the same breath you can tell someone "congratulations, and sorry to hear the bad news." Hopefully this will be a bit faster since they have already done all the work once before...you know, something like 10-12 weeks:D

They say it should be a week turn around. I'm going to wait until all the paperwork is in order before they pry it out of my hand. ha ha..

When they say "a week turnaround", is that their best guess?
Since the mail doesn't go that fast, the week must mean time spent in their office. So optimistically your looking at a week and a half to three weeks on the outside. Well that just sucks....Hang in there, it'll come together soon. Then you can play it all again when it comes time to renew!
Are all the new ccw applicants having this much fun do you know, or did they reserve it just for you?

Well, congrats on the new license. I had ot get replacment license because I moved. They said one week but it took two. Its worth getting the correct caliber in my opinion though. Good luck with your situation.

I plan on getting the correct caliber for sure. I've waited this long, I suppose as soon as I get comfortable carrying I will have to send it back for my week turn around a.k.a. 3 weeks in NM State time. I know of at least two others who took the class within a week of me that still don't have their license, so not that it makes it better, but I'm not the only one. I'd like to see them get it together. But that could mean many more of us are exercising our rights. So maybe the extra wait time isn't bad after all. I suppose it's all in the way you look at the big picture. Thanks for all the encouragement and have a safe weekend.

Wow, I really feel bad for you! But you are right, you need to get it corrected.
I am going to be doing without mine for a few weeks too. We just moved and I think you have to send in your current license in order to get a new one with the updated address.

My wife is still waiting for her CCL in New Mexico. We sent the forms in to them on Jan 22nd and I got mine on March 14th.
Their latest excuse is that the finger prints were not easy to read so they sent them to the FBI to have them read so they are at the mercy of the Feds and don't know when she can expect to get the CCL!

I guess there is always an excuse for anything if you'd rather make up excuses then do the work.. ha ha.. Hopefully her CCL will come in soon. I carried today for most of the day. I expected to feel strange, but no one noticed, or so it appeared.

ya, it's interesting that you need a license to excercise your rights.

I'm sending my conceal carry lic. back today. I've talked to them, they say all the paperwork is in order. We'll see what kinda wait time I'll have.. Hopefully it will come back quickly.

Received my license today. It is correct. Shows .45 and smaller caliber this time. It only took 5 days which included Sunday so I guess a 4 day turnaround wasn't terrible.

thats cool. is there a nm statute that requires them to turn the license around in a certain timeframe or they are required to issue the license anyway?
fla has one. if it's not done in 90 days you request the license and they have to send it regardless of if they have the backround complete or not.
