I have used a couple of different holsters before. Mostly IWB holsters. I sometimes prefer no holster at all. Just stick to gun in the two O'clock or on the side of my hip. Anyone else do this also.

I am not sure if you have heard of this but I like the "Smart Carry" holster. It goes well with my style of dress and the way I would draw a firearm. I have never just stuck it in my pants because I am afraid if I jog or have to run for any reason it could shake loose. Also if I was in a scuffle the bad guy could gain access to my weapon more easy. IMO

I don't think it's safe to carry a gun without a holster, especially something like a Glock. I just feel better having the trigger guard covered.

Never really thought much about having to run or get in a scuffle. Good points everyone. I agree that you must invest in a good quality holster. There are a lot of holsters to choose from and I will start a new thread on this topic. Thank you everyone.

I have estimated close to 5000 presentations from my BH CQC Serpa holster that rides on my body armor. I have yet to have an issue with this holster. Matty is such a gear snob... if it isnt white, like his shoes... he wont have it. just kidding
Seriously though... I do like the BH platform, the way it rides on my leg. I can get it very high, up on my hip almost. I also like the fact that with just three screws, I can change my holster to any gun that I have. I have one for my 1911, for my Glocks, and for the Beretta.
The regular tactical serpa that BH makes, has a higher "hood" in the front of the sight rail, but the CQC does not have this hood. It has the same retention system... and IMO it is just as secure. What the "hood" does, is protect your rear sights a bit better, by having some plastic up a bit higher. I dont use this holster, since I do not do patrol work.
Most of my time is spent in a shoot house, using a Glock 17T with SIM rounds, force on force. I am getting VERY used to transitioning from my M4 over to my Glock, from the body armor.
For what I am doing, it really works. But, I also like the Safariland leg rigs too. I would say, the VAST majority of the LEOs that come through my courses, are using the Safariland. I have seen a few teams kitted with the CQC stuff, but not many.
I am getting so comfortable drawing from the CQC Serpa, that I am using it in some stages at my local shooting club. Most of the guys look at me like I am nuts, using a "retention" style holster, in a stage. But, I find it just as fast as my non retention FOBUS paddle.
I guess it is all in how you train with your gear. I would be interested to hear about the CQC stuff, and the problems you are having or had with it Matty...
In all truth though, I really listen to those out there on the tip of the spear. Its been a while since I was in the box, so things have changed. I dont have any other BH gear, save for the CQC holsters and a Gladdius light. BTW, the strobe feature on that light is worth its weight in gold
Cheers,
GSXR

I've considered a clip as opposed to a holster, but I've opted to purchase holsters instead.

I can see the benefit to a clip/no holster. It would be more comfortable. Holster-less carry just brings images of a gang-banger lifting his shirt to brandish his weapon in a confrontation. So, it's going to be an IWB for me. For comfort it's pretty hard to beat this holster.

Of course to conceal, this would be used with an un-tucked shirt which is the same way you would have to dress if you went without a holster or a clip.

I have that clip on my Keltec PF9. I actually really like it. It is very convenient to have. This way I do not need a belt and works good with shorts.

Using a clip on a Glock-style gun, it would be necessary (for safety's sake) to carry without a round in the chamber -- right? I have thought about a clip as well.

Do you recommend the clip and one in the chamber? Or one in the chamber no clip?

i don't like triggers being exposed while carrying. so no clip with one in the chamber. even if your gun has 30 safeties. the most important safety on your weapon is your trigger. protect it.

I agree with Jizzle on this one. My wife and I both carry .45's made by Taurus. These guns will not fire (even with all safeties off) unless the triggers are pulled all of the way. I do believe that this is the best safety you can get.

I totally agree, This is why I have IWBs to conceal. I only considered the clip, never purchased.
