It came to mind reading about how it takes forever to get the CCLs in the mail and sometimes they arn't correct so you have to send them back. And the whole time, you have to go around unarmed (depending on what state you live in).
I wanted to get all of your ideas on the subject.

I answered no, it's a God-given, natural right. The Second Amendment says so.

I answered "Yes but, it isn't managed well". I like the idea of requiring some type of safety and legal training before carrying a handgun either open or concealed. Some of the folks out there carrying a loaded weapon are scary.
I don't know about other states but, in New Mexico it takes some folks "forever" to get their license after they complete the course and send in their paperwork. I was one of the lucky ones, it only took me four weeks. My wife has been waiting over four months for hers.
Maybe the state needs to issue a temporary license to use in the interim between the time you successfully complete the course and you get your license in the mail (similar to what happens with your driver's license).
The folks who think that it is a right and we shouldn't need a license have a good point and I do agree with them. My only hang-up, as I mentioned, is the lack of training in safety, gun handling, and laws without a formal course required to get a license.
Just my two cents:D

This is a hard poll to answer. I need a "none of the above" choice. As long as we have criminal code violations like "carrying a concealed weapon", how would you separate the bad guys from the good? Worse, given the history of firearms and the constitution, how would you legally argue that "bear arms" means concealed ? Finally, for most here, you have tacitly accepted the premise that you need a government license of some sort or you would not have gone through the hoops to obtain one. Which nullifies the validity of the last choice.

there's a difference between believing that it's a god given right and breaking the law as it stands. the difference is reasonablness. is it reasonable to get the license so that you don't get jail time? Does the cost for not getting it outweigh the cost of getting it? I think that's what it breaks down to.
my point however is this. Why in the hell is there someone somewhere who dictates if and when and how and for what reason a person can carry.
as for the classes and training. did you know the male of the 20th and 21st centuries are the first ones not taught basic weapon skills as a whole? Before that it was something that everyone learned because it was expected of them. i know i know, a lot of you guys teach it to your kids. I will too when i have them. But, if we all taught it to our kids there wouldn't be a need for a license would there? The guy that doesn't have a clue about guns would be the exception to the rule instead of the rule. like it is now.
and as far as the process for getting the licenses. you have to pay to get the class right? which you have to have to get the license. then you have to pay to get the license. that doesn't sound like "Shall Issue" to me. How much does it cost in NM to get a license? 300+? However, the fact that you can OC in NM is a plus. No license et. but, it's a lot more restricted as far as where you can go than CC. so, like i said before. why is there something in place that says where, when, if, how, and for what reason I can carry or not.
