But I really like single action revolvers and lever guns. A couple of weeks ago I picked up a new Henry (http://henryrepeatingarms.com/index.cfm) .22 lever action carbine. Now I'm thinking I really need a Big Boy (http://henryrepeatingarms.com/h006_bigboy.cfm) in either .45 Colt, or .44 Remington Magnum -- or both.
I also have a Sharps (made in Montana) 45/70 rifle that I'm pretty fond of. It is similar to the rifle Tom Selleck used in the movie "Quigly Down Under". Anyway, I'm not sure if the company is still in business because I haven't been able to find them online.
Don't get me wrong, I like the "modern" guns too. But these old designs have a special place in my heart.

I have a 30-30 winchester that I got from my dad when he passed in 03,but he got it back when I was 12 or so,I still use it for deer hunting.I looking into getting a bolt action rifle, thinking Tikka 308, the bad thing is I aways have to pay just alittle more for them cause I am left handed.I also have a single action 22 revolver and it is fun to shoot.
I will look and see if I can find out what happened to sharps rifle company, would you mind telling me what you gave for the henry 22,I would like to get one myself to have for plinking

I'll bet that 30-30 is special to you! I wish I would have gotten some of my dad's guns. My first gun that I bought when I was 18 is a Winchester 30-30. I still have it.
The Henry was $258 before the sales tax.
I have a Colt Single Action Peacemaker .22 that is fun to shoot as well. It is too bad that Colt doesn't make them anymore.

I guess I had better do some research on Winchester again. I did not know that they even made lever-action guns in those calibers -- or any lever-action guns for that matter. I had thought that they were about out of the gun business.
Are those guns yours?

Wow, with only five posts, this is an excellent thread. So many topics that are of interest in so few posts. I only jump in to anguish over Winchester. Otherwise I will be sidetracked in too many areas.

Given the discussion so far and the topic, Colt 45 might really appreciate this article by the author of the book: "Shooting Lever Guns Of The Old West". Its a long read (5 pages) but a fine tribute to the guns of Winchester.

ya winchester is no longer making them. but, you can find them at gun shows for about 500-800 bucks depending on the condition. also marlin makes a couple different versions that are tack drivers. 1894 models. Look them up, they are very nice.
the lever guns arn't mine unfortunatly. They are a close friends. He has both the winchesters and the marlins. He prefers the winchesters himself but to me it's too close to call. If you want I'll ask him out to the range and we'll give it a whirl when your available.

That would be great. I would bring my Henry for comparison. I would need a couple days notice to line up a car. I would be coming from Cruces.
Years ago I had the opportunity to shoot a few Marlin lever actions. I was impressed. I thought the action was smoother on the Marlins than on my Winchester.

I have been lucky to be able to find some .44 magnum ammo here and there. Sometimes a box of .357 magnum will show up as well. I always pick them up when I have the money. I should get back into reloading.

Winchester is still in business but no longer American owned, got bought up by the guys that own FN in Belgium I think. Anyway here's a link to their non-catalogue items. Kind of spendy but you can still get a lever gun. I have a Marlin in 30-30 and my wife owns a Browning BLR in .243. Lever guns never went away, they just quit making news.
Remember, if you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem must be electrical

Yikes! Yes, a little spendy for a retired person. I would love to have one of those John Wayne '92s! Maybe someday...the stock '92 looks doable, but is currently out of stock. I would love to see one in person. Thanks for the link!
Yeah, I'm not sure lever guns will ever go away. I'm thankful for that.
