Hi all,

I am having a seriously hard time finding ammo for my Colt single actions (.45 Colt). Years ago I used to reload, but in moving some of my equipment is missing, and it's been about 20 or so years since I've reloaded so I was wondering if someone here would be willing to reload some for me for a fee. I have the brass and the dies, but that is it. I like in Las Cruces but visit the Alamo/Tulie area frequently.

I certainly would not mind as long as it is a joint venture. Due to ammo liability laws, first I cannot make a profit, but sharing the component cost is ok. Also we need to figure a way for you to share in the actual ammo assembly process so you have an equal responsibility for the ammo assembly. Finally, we would need to assemble and fire some test loads to verify it is safe for your guns. My own preference is for Trail Boss in the 45 Colt since it is almost impossible to overcharge a case with it. I would strongly recommend it for that reason and because I am finding it to be very accurate in my own stuff. I have been keeping it accurate and safely getting the velocity up to around 1000 fps but that is with my current supply of lighter than normal Penn Bullets (lead with bee's wax lube).

Bullets are RNFPBB (Round nose Flat Point, Bevel Base) listed as 200 gr but all samples I have tried weigh in at 212.5 gr. The big 250 grainers just aint safe to push to that velocity.

Oh, the brinell hardness is 14, which means it can handle the speed without leading the barrel too much. Plus its a good value to prevent splatter and bounce back when shooting steel targets.

Not that I would not load jacketed, but haven't seen any available lately for a reasonable price.

i've shot sins .45 LC loads. they are very nice and controllable, not to mention accurate like he stated. i'd reccomend the trailboss too.

Thank you Jizzle. And of course you have heard me say this already, but it is a good time to repeat it for others.

I really really like Trail Boss, but it is a specialty powder, designed exclusively for lead bullets. IMR recommends lead bullets ONLY right on the container, not for jacketed at all. I have also seen some indications that Trail Boss should not be used in "compressed" loads either. For what it is designed for, I have found nothing better or even close.

Thank you sinclair! Yes, everything you said is great with me. I'll send you a pm with my contact info. We are leaving for Michigan this weekend, and will be gone for a week or so. But sometime after that if we can get together that would be wonderful.

maybe once you get back colt, sin and you can both join me at the range. there's no better excuse to throw some lead down range.

He He. And what else could be meant by having to fire some test loads to make sure they are safe in a gun ? Sounds more like "business" than just having fun.
Depends on who your audience is.

I'd really like that! I'm sorry it didn't work out before. But since my wife's mother lives in Tulie I get to the area frequently. Some weekend we'll stay the night so I can be available first thing in the morning. We are only going to be gone for one week, just a few days there.
