I think open carry is great idea. What better way to detour criminals for their selfish and stupid acts. Its time we arm ourselves and law abiding citizens a fighting chance against crime. We must also put a stop to making laws that strip us of our god given right to protect ourselves.

deter.. not detour.
how about we just get everyone to carry responsibly as they see fit and don't make any distinctions between open or concealed carry?

You go ahead and OC if that is what suits you , I would rather CC and not offend others that have the right to not carry at all-- don't forget - we ALL have the right to bear arms - or not -- some people are very uncomfortable around fire arms and OC by someone not readily identifible as a law enforcement officer , makes them very uncomfortable.
I perfer to not put myself in that position of being the one to make them uncomfortable , that is why I CC

Personally I CC because of various reasons but here in Tn. your permit is a HCP (Handgun Carry Permit) not a CCW so around here you can open carry anywhere you can conceal carry but is not done by very many, there is nothing that states that you must conceal but is recommended by training classes and the like.

I wish we could pass an open carry law here in Florida. Outside of work and the Post office I would carry all the time. With the light cloths we wear here, cc is a pain. Also in times of economic hard times some people who would not be tempted in good times are now. I see open carry as a detourent.

I have nothing against "Open Carry", but for the sake of screwing with the minds of the criminal element, I want there to always be concealed carry too! It is just too easy for the bad guys to look at someone openingly carrying a firearm and decide to back off. I want the son-of-guns wondering if the little old lady in the back of the store is packing or not.
That way, they would always be in a state of confusion about their next possible victim. While not everyone will be in agreement, most of us agree that regardless of open, or concealed it should not require a law to tell us that we have that right!

Couple of thoughts -
you are the bad guy robbing a bank. You walk in and here is a person OC ing a pistol. One of two things will happen. He will shoot you to eliminate the threat OR he will take your gun and now has two.
While I agree that all states should be like TN and my home state of MN. Permit to Carry vs. CCW. I also believe that there are few places where OC is in any way beneficial. In most instances I prefer the element of surprise it affords me if and when it becomes necessary to use lethal force.
BUT the bottom line is as long as you are legal - to each his own.
Yes texan you r rite that we should stop to making laws that strip our right to protect ourselves and chance to fighting against crime..... we all have rights to fight against crime and protect ourselves.......
