YAY!!!,

I've been patiently waiting for the last two years for a RIA compact to show up. I walked into the gun show at the Fairgrounds and there it was. I asked the vendor to hold it while I ran out to get some cash...:D I' happy!

I doubt that it will supplant my XD as a carry, but it will be a nice variation when I want to take a little more gun on the road. NOW, to break it in and leave you guys my impressions! I'll be back!

I was wondering how long it would be until you recognized them Sam :D , I'd say you are very familiar with them indeed!

OK,

I got out to the range this afternoon, to take two friends and start them out on drills with their new XD's (always fun). I took the Rock Island CS out to start it's break-in and I'm IMPRESSED!

I ran Smith and Wesson white box through it as well as some steel cased Russian ammo, (that was not Bear or Wolf), it burned cleaner...but still had hiccups. Using the S&W there was no issues what so ever. Off hand at 25 yards...slow, I was able to hold a group at 2 inches, with no flyers.

I ran speed drills, and cleared 4 mags as fast as I could shoot them and no problems. Aim point was dead on out to 50 yards...where I admittedly don't practice much and I begin to SUCK. Even the Russian ammo didn't cause much problem...Through 200 rounds I had 4 stoppages, nothing major. This was the first outing, so I'm very optimistic about this gun.

I intentionally bought ammo that covered a spectrum...quality ammo makes break-in easier, but I want to know what this thing likes to eat...next outing all one type ammo, the final break-in shoot will be to find JHPs for carry after I better know this gun.

So far though, I LIKE IT!

Sounds great, and it looks like it's going to be a keeper!

By stoppages, do you fail to feeds?

Do you have a carry holster picked out for it yet?

Nice gun, I just bought the same one this last Sunday. Also picked up two Kimber stainless mags for it. Surprisingly, they were the most affordable mags I could find in town. I'll be taking it to the range for the first time later this week and will give my report as well.

I had four rounds that didn't go into battery...one was my fault because I jacked a second round duh...the other three were because the rounds got stuck on the ramp. After I jacked the round the mags emptied without a hitch. The rounds were good and fired...the Russian was dirty ammo compared to the S&W.

I don't have a dedicated holster for it yet, I'm leaning toward a belt slide though. The CS is a flat pistol and easy to conceal, even on my small frame. I don't want to conceal it too deep. I have a couple of holsters that will work...OR I may talk Sam into making me another belt slide holster. But before anything I'll finish breaking it in, as I said I don't see dropping the XDc as my main carry, but I sure look forward to carrying the CS!

Does Sam make holsters?

He has in the past...He made one for my Star that is the only one I like to use for it...Very well made, you'd have to ask him if he's still doing it. He chimed in on a holster post a while ago.

How is your RIA compact doing? how many rounds are you up to with it? I found SARCO selling them for $365 and felt it was to good of a deal to pass up.
Has there been any ammo it did not like?

Thanks. I picked it up this weekend and put 175 rounds through it. It did not seem to like the Federal hydro shocks I used. I had 4 FTF out of 20 rounds. All the others it had no problems with :). I think this is going to make a great carry gun. I do better with it them my current Taurus PT145 :D. Now I just have to get a Ambidextrous thumb safety and a holster. I checked locally and they were way high in price .

New member here and I want to show off my RIA cs. I just finished Cerama-coating it yesterday. It already shot great, now it looks better than before. Gone is the gray/green parkerizing.
Picked mine up locally here in S. FL for $399 otd. I also bought 500 rounds of 230 gr. ball and it has been fine. No FTF, or FTE's.

Very nice!! WHen I was looking at getting my 1911, I seriously considered that exact one you bought. I ended up splurging just a bit with the help of my wife and getting a Kimber. (birthday, fathers day, and christmas gift all at once) ha :D

Great price by the way!

I wish I could have gotten a Kimber. But, for my purposes the RIA will suffice. BTW, doing the Cerama-coat was actually pretty easy. Total time was about 3 hours start to finish.
