OK, someone had to eventually do it, so how about a relevant rant on Inauguration Day... :D
Why is it that our big city liberals (and transplants) are incapable of understanding that at least half of their fellow countrymen do not live in the same environment that they do?
This isn't limited to guns. Where I live, each new transplant will give me the mocking liberal sneer all summer long for driving a big diesel 4x4. Then comes the first snow of the season which promptly buries their Prius (sorry BMan), and guess who they call first to pull them out? They don't even see anything wrong with mocking me in their ignorance, and then immediately calling on me to help them when their ignorance gets them in trouble. Amazing.
The same holds true when I open carry. I open carry when I walk up here because pretty much once a year I have an encounter with a mama bear and her cubs or a mountain lion. These encounters have always been very calm and all parties leave the scene happy. In fact, the encounters are usually pretty comical. However, if something goes off the wire, I don't think 911 will be much help.
Of course, the new transplants will give you the round eyed look of shock, and maybe even try a call to the sheriff when they see an XD.45 on your belt. These same fools never figure out that we have a large population of mountain lions that prey on the cute little does that they are feeding in their front yard. So, the first time Miss Kitty has their poodle for lunch, they want to know who they should call to trap that mountain lion and relocate it.
Fortunately, most of these people move away after we have a real winter (or poor Fido gets eaten), but we still have a steady stream to replace them. So, now I conceal carry when I walk so that I don't offend their delicate sensibilities.
In the end, these are the same people who will be pressuring the new administration to curtail our rights to defend ourselves. They have no understanding that there is a different world beyond their local Starbucks, and thus feel that they have moral high ground to tell the rest of us that we don't need to have guns. To me, this is more of the same; staggering ego combined with monumental ignorance.
If you haven't read Charlton Heston's autobiography, I would highly reccommend that you do so. There is a great story that he tells about how during the riots in LA, tons of the good anti-gun liberals in Hollywood were calling him up saying "Hey, uh, Chuck, you have guns right?? Could I maybe borrow one for a while?".
The storm is coming folks, and I hope that we can all intelligently stand together to defend our right to defend ourselves from these fools. If there is anyone on this forum that has let it lapse, get that NRA membership renewed. I think we are all going to have to spend plenty of time writing congress, educating people and most importantly standing up and taking a position....
