Just Happened:

There are few things that scare me...but man was I scared!

Driving home from work in traffic with my yj and the car in front of me hit the brakes pretty hard. I hit them too and all of a sudden......no more brake! Crash!!!!!!!!

Luckly, we werent going fast and neither of us had any damage. I told him I lost brakes and showed him my peddle going to the floor. We shook hands and said "no sweat" and carried on.

I pulled over and checked my reservoir(sp?) and it was pretty much empty! I creeped over to the autparts store and got a bottle of DOT3. I dumped the whole thing in there and pumped the brakes hoping they would "pump up"....NOT!

"well, i guess im driving home with no brakes" I said to myself. I gave it three clicks on the parking brake, put it in first gear and off I went.

After getting home, I opened the hood again and did a inspection. Everything from up above seemed to be in tacked......allthough I am leaking brake fluid like a siev from undernieth!!!!

Question for you Scooter..... it appears that Im leaking (drivers side) just behind the firewall......and allot!!! Is there any connections or fallacies around that area that could fail, JUST LIKE THAT?

Max...."keep thy mouth shut!"

I think sam hit it, master cylinder seal. It also depends on how far up the leak is though. Have you followed the brake lines down along the frame rail to see that they are intact? From what your describing tough it is likely the master cyl.
