Why in god's name would you have to include on the permit that you would be carry firearms leagally? It sounds more like a reason for the permit to be denied to me

For someone doesn't call the police and say that someone has a gun and they come rushing down there with their guns drawn.

yes, the permit was approved.

I asked the same question and that also is being worked out. There should not be a requirement to register an event as open carry or not.

I doubt that anyone would/should "do it with a gun in your hand" as reported in the article.

they won't be. safety has been stressed over and over and over on this subject.
it's even being suggested that if your normal practice is to carry with one in the pipe, not to, which in my opinion is a bit far but, whatever floats thier boat.

Was it a permit to carry or a permit to assemble?

Was it a permit to carry or a permit to assemble?
Good question.
"According to Cameron Stern, deputy records/archive clerk with the city of Alamogordo, the groups applied on Monday for a permit to conduct the protest."
That makes it a permit to assemble. However, the presence of firearms at a public assembly seems to complicate things, even though it should be quite legal to do so. Here was Stern's response:
"They mentioned carrying firearms (at the protest) and I told them to make sure to put it on the application," Stern said. "Otherwise, people will be calling DPS and (officers) will fly out there with their guns drawn."
I am guessing that this is unusual in the grand scheme of things, since this was first mentioned on KOAT, Albq. channel 7 on Tuesday. It was called a "Tea Party with a twist".
If you can, people, it is time to get involved.

I agree. It is time to get involved.
I would imagine that the purpose with getting the DPS involved is so that they are aware of the event and people will be bringing guns. I would also imagine that there will be increased patrols by the DPS and local LE agencies.

If you are going please go to the a2atf website and add yourself to the mailing list so you get all the info for this and other events.

It looks like the Otero Democrats are going to be protesting too, or showing support for the Obama Administration:

Yes they are and where not required to get a permit to protest since they where thrown under the 2atfs permit like an umbrella permit. awesome huh.
I don't care if they want to come out.
What I do care is that everyone maintain low tones adn not allow them to precipitate an confrontation.
Someone needs to bring a video rig to record everything for posterity. Nice to have if some fool tries to get idiotic. Please bring one if you have one and spare batteries and tape or whatever they take these days.

Well folks the event went just fine.
Got to meet a couple of our board members and as I suspected, they are fine people.
There were around 300+ people there.
Across the street, there were gathered some of the "opposition". They managed a dozen people at their high point. As usual they were on the wrong side of the road
and can't see past the end of their noses (the sun was in their eyes)
Contrary to the desires of some bloggers, no one was shot.

I luv that photo of the pooch in open carry.
I will post a few as soon as I edit the high res down a bit. I am a bit on the paranoid side so many of my photos were high res of parking lots and onlookers rather than the event itself. Amazing what you can do with multi-mega pixel shots (I mean photos).
Met up with Max and Sam, and I did not know we had two "Scooters" as members, but I met, for want of a better term, the digitally enhanced "Scooter".

That would be a fun spelling to jump on but I will let it go. "Jealousy" was a composition by the 101 Strings in the late fifties. Before stereo records.
OK I am sorta trying to tell a story here so we shall see how it goes. Let me get these photos lined up right.

Going to tote my trusty Herters 401!
Gotta say I noted you were carrying a 1911 style cocked and locked. I was disappointed by that. Not the gun, I love 1911's but I had hoped to get a chance to verify that the year of manufacture for the Herters is stamped on the barrel by the proof marks.
Also, I will post the text for the last photo later.

Sorry about that Sinclair,
I couldn't get the rig around my belly.
If you really want to examine, we can get together.
I have 2 of them. and 700 pcs original brass too.

I think he said his name was Brandon, but I'm not sure. I met so many people that day. He was a nice kid and let me hold his sign for a while when he was passing out flyers. He has a cute little girl too.

Well, just in case you know him, he appears in the video Max posted, and I think makes a comment about his carry gun. Watch carefully starting around 5:05 and freeze frame for profile at 5:44 or 5:45.
Sorry about that Sinclair
That's OK, just a random bit of gun fact I enjoy verifying. I will take your word for the examination, now you know where to look for the date stamp. Should be two numbers only.
One of them is a 67 which is just marked "Herters .401 PowerMag
The other is an early model a 65, from before they got in trouble with Ruger and is marked
'Herters Single Six, 401 Calibre"

The scooter you are wondering about's name is Justin Cummings. He's a memeber of the steering commitee of the 2ATF along with myself, Dan and another member we just accepted. But I can't remember his name, haven't met him personally yet, I've been out of the country.
