Hi All,

I, like many of you have several guns, handguns and long guns, and while I have the safety devices for all of them not one has a trigger lock on it. However, all of them are locked in a safe that is bolted to the wall AND floor, no keys to either is left in the house and the spare are in a place away from the home.

So how do you secure your guns?

P.S.

I have no children in my home.

I keep my guns in a GunVault GV2000 like the one pictured below. They are loaded with an extra mag. I have two kids and I dont want them to get it but I dont want to die trying to unlock a gun. I use a finger pad and it works fast. This is the best option for me. Although I do plan on making a purchase of a Shotgun or Rifle and this would not work at all. I am not exactly sure how I would store those. If I am lucky to get one I will figure it out then.

I have one of these as well. I love it. I have kids as well and it is tamper proof.

1992 my wife and I designed out home to be built. Had just retired (1st time) from the USA Army. We went a little overboard by building a 4 BR 2 story with additional full basement totaling 3800 SF.

I took a 15 by 20 foot portion of the basement and had it turned into a safe. It is completely encased in 4 inch steel reinforced concrete including the top. Since I reload a lot I had forced ventilation and a vented propane heater added for emergency (MN is slightly cold in the winter) along with a steel touchpad combination door. All of this had to be built before they added the first floor over that portion of the basement.

It doubles as a family safe room if needed. Food & water for 1 month - most are MRE's but they are nutritional. Radio/several flashlights and plenty of batteries. Also keep two disposable cell phones with 250 minutes loaded on each.

Currently holding many firearms, a full reload area and also 75,000+ rounds in various calibers.

I've always thought of building a "panic room"/safe in my basement. Do you have a battery backup on the door? How thick are the walls?

Walls - as stated in original post = It is completely encased in 4 inch steel reinforced concrete including the top.

Actually I have the door powered by a morotcycle battery on a battery tender. Once the power goes off I estimate that the battery would last approximately 185 days before I had to think about it. This is based upon a AGM type battery losing approximately 1% charge per week.

Ok, can anyone top that?

Awesome responses...keep them coming!

I wonder what it would take to convert a walk-in closet to a gun safe/safe room...unfortunately I'd loose a walk-in closet. Maybe at some point when I renovate I can go the route of a dedicated safe room...its a thought

A small brewery in St. Paul MN called Vinepark. Allows you (or a group) to come in and brew and bottle your own. They have MANY different tastes to mix up. Rattlesnake ale is but one of them (my favorite. Runs about 10 - 12 % alcohol and bottles are 20 oz.

And to be honest it is a Lager and not an Ale. When we brewed it up the first time - one of the wives got the label design wrong and called it Rattlesnake Ale - guess we just never change it.

Heres a link.

If I ever make it up your way, we will go brew some CCC(ConcealCarryChat) Lager. And a case of Rattlesnake Ale. Sounds like an awesome place to go. Can we have my birthday party there??:)
