Magnum's Guns And Ammo - Cloudcroft
Living in Cloudcroft, I drive by the Mountaintop Mercantile nearly everyday and for a while they had a banner announcing that the opening for "Magnum's Guns And Ammo" was coming soon. Something jarred my mind today on my drive home, perhaps it was my itching to buy a new pistol or perhaps I just noticed the banner was missing. Either way, it gave me enough motivation to call them up.
I talked with a guy there, he informed me of some of what they're about and have. He said they currently have over 200 guns in stock, carry lots of other ammo and accessories too. Their FFL Transfer fees are only $25 (compared to Dave's Guns at $100; but higher than another local FFL who shall rename nameless but never returned my calls before my last purchase). I asked for a price quote on a few guns and they are VERY competitive to prices I'd be able to get things for online, and seemed to be better prices than some other local stores that I've called. They are open Tuesday through Saturday, forgot to ask but their hours are probably something like 9am-4pm. If I have time tomorrow, I think I'll swing in and check them out, perhaps pick up a little ammo too. Either way, I think I found my new go-to shop for firearms! I'll post a better review after I have a little time to check the store out. Has anyone else here been there yet or even heard about it? FFL Transfer Fee: $25 Hours: 9am-5pm; Tuesday thru Saturday Magnum's Guns 105 A James Canyon Hwy PO Box 1320 Cloudcroft, NM 88317 Phone: 575-682-6677 Fax: 575-682-7444 magnumsguns@gmail.com . |
Great to know! Thanks for posting this!

After having a rather busy couple of weeks I finally was able to stop in and check the store out. It is in the left side of the Mountaintop Merc, has its own walls too. It's relatively a small setup, probably about a 10-15' wide by 25-30' long room.
LOTS of revolvers, some new, some old. The guy said he loves Desert Eagles and revolvers, and his stock showed it. Looked to have quite a bit of ammo, though a bit on the high price (roughly 25% higher than walmart; only prices i remember were $49.99 vs $39.99 at WM, and $49.99 vs $34.99 at WM). One more thing about the ammo, it seemed to be a personal collection, as if he spent 10 years purchasing ammo of all calibers from Walmart and is now trying to sell it at a markup. Nothing wrong with that (that I know of), but for us locals its a bit sad. Lots of rifles and several shotguns, quite a few pistols to chose from, no Glocks but he did have quite a few 1911s. His FFL Transfers are $25 and he said just give him a call to give him a heads up on an order. But he warned me that if I purchase from a private party online, when he receives it he WILL call the serial number in to the sheriff's office to make sure it's not stolen; already has had 1 stolen firearm delivered to him (that the buyer was unaware of) in the 2 months he's been open. He said his markup on most firearms is roughly $50 over the cost that he can get it for. Though he will get you the final cost (including tax) when you place an order (so if its way too much or not what you were expecting you aren't locked into it). But, the only downside is if you place an order for something he doesn't have in stock you have to pay when you place the order. He said thats mostly because he may or may not be able to sell it to someone else if you back out of the purchase and then he's stuck. Mentioned he does frequent gun shows to trade his inventory, meant to ask if he purchases used firearms or is willing to sell at shows for a fee. But I'm sure if you're interested you could call too. Anyways, edited the main post to add his information. |
It's pretty tough for anyone to compete with Walmart these days.
Did you notice what 1911s he had in stock? Any Colts? Max |

Unfortunately, no I didn't notice what 1911s he had. I don't really know much about 1911s and am not interested in them really, so I didn't pay attention to them. Give him a call, I'm sure he'd let you know what he's got. |
Thanks Garrett, I'll do that. It may be worth a drive up there too.

Hey Buff new guy from Alamogordo here. Is that place still open??
|
I believe it is. Any reason you want to drive up to Cloudcroft instead of hitting up Dave's Guns in Alamogordo? I haven't been to Dave's, have heard mixed reviews on them though, but they're close.
If you need a local FFL to do transfers, send me a PM and I'll get you the contact info for a guy in Alamogordo. |
Just wanted to see what they have. Dave's has a pretty good inventory, prices are a little stiff in my opinion, but he is the the only place in town unless you order on line..If I do that I go through Basin Firearms, I know the owner and at $25 for transfer isn't bad. There is 2 other gun shops in town, but never find them open. I don't buy ammo I reload all my own, but if I do ever buy it, can't beat Wally World for price.
