Default Whats the difference?

I am looking at getting an XD Compact .45, why is there such a big weight difference between a XD with stainless steel slide and the forged steel? The forged steel weighs in at 26 oz and the stainless at 29 oz. I know it isn't that much but when carrying all day, it makes a difference.

Stainless steel is more dense, that will make it heavier. I am a machinist, I work with various types of steel every day and stainless is about as heavy as it get's.

Ya, that is what I was thinking. Here is what I am looking at. It sure looks sweet, but not sure if I want the extra weight. What other benifits dose the stainless have over the other?

No rust......

And the slide won't wear as quickly.
