Default NRA-Backed Bills Filed in the New Mexico Legislature!

As previously reported, two NRA-backed bills have been filed in the New Mexico Legislature and have now been assigned to committees where they are awaiting action. Senate Bill 220 is the NRA-backed “Castle Doctrine” self-defense bill which would allow lawful occupants of a dwelling to use any degree of physical force against an intruder. The second, House Bill 140, would eliminate the mandatory mid-term firearms refresher training course currently required for Concealed Handgun Licensees.

SB 220, sponsored by state Senator George Munoz (D-Gallup), has been referred to the Senate Public Affairs & Senate Judiciary Committees. As of now, no hearing has officially been scheduled for the bill. Please contact members of these two committees and urge them to support SB 220:

HB 140, filed by state Representative Nate Gentry (R-ABQ), has been referred to the House Consumer & Public Affairs and House Judiciary Committees. As of now, no hearing has officially been scheduled for the bill. Please contact members of these two committees and urge them to support HB 140:

Thank You!

Default Hb136

I recently emailed the NRA-ILA and asked them why they were not backing HB136. Their response was that they supported SB220 and HB140 because they were drafted at the request of the NRA-ILA and NMSSA. I find it incredulous that NRA and New Mexico Shooting Sports Assoc. believe one of our most pressing issues with NMCCW laws is the requirement of a 2 year refresher when we are still prohibited from going into our State Parks, can't ride a city bus, can't enter most restaurants, can't walk into university campuses etc. As you probably know, many people who apply for and receive their CCW never go back to the range for practice until it is time for their renewal yet they are attempting to remove the one law that requires CHL holders to see if their gun even still works while ignoring legislation that could remove blatant infringements of our 2nd amendment rights and dangerous restrictions to our ability to protect ourselves and our families. I encourage everyone to contact the NMSSA and urge them to get behind Representative Cooks House Bill 136

If I am reading the committee site correctly, it appears that HB 140 has died in committee, whatever that means.
