Default So I bought a 1911 this weekend.

I bought a used RIA M1911-A1 this weekend at the show in cruces. It's straight GI-Spec. Nothing fancy. But, I couldn't pass it up based on the price and condition. It's very lightly used. And show's no signs of wear on the bore.

I'll post a picture if you like but it's just a plain jane for now.

I need to order an ambi mag release and safety. What has everyone used website wise for parts? Anything that fits a basic GI-Colt or other brand will fit this gun. If you can please provide links.

Also I've been looking at some various holsters. What's the consensus concerning carring a full sized 1911? Slide holster?

So have you taken it out and given it a try yet? I took my Colt 1919 out to the range right after I left the show. I had taken a cleaning kit with me and took it apart, cleaned and oiled it...and then fired it! It shoots great!

I did. It shoots very well. I put a couple different types of ammo through it. No issues. I replaced the grips with traditional walnut ones.

That's great! I'm sure it looks a lot better now. Shoots well too, but we expected that. Did you try any hollow points?

I think you will find it more than acceptable.
They are actually the only 1911 on the market that is anywhere near true military specification.

The Filipino's take their 45's seriously.

I tried all diff kinds of ammo and no issue what so ever.

Ya sam, I like it a lot. I figured out how to get the safety off during the draw. I think with a little practice it'll be good to go.
