Default What holster for travel?

I have an IWB holster for my Ruger sr40C. It is good in general CC though I have not worn it for long periods. But I think it may be better to get a smaller gun that can be used with an ankle holster while driving a car on a long trip.

Any ideas?

I may have found an answer. I tried a Glock 30 the other day and did all right with it based on average accuracy on a standard (for me) target. I liked it. It is the same length as my Ruger sr40c and just a bit lower in hight making it easier to draw. Galco makes a what looks like a good ankle holster for it. I might have to trade in the Ruger for the Glock.

An ankle holster is kind of difficult to get to quickly, and possibly more so when behind the wheel. Many people prefer OWB "crossdraw" holsters for more comfort when sitting for extended periods. For the most comfort though, you really can't beat a shoulder holster, although a covering garment is required.
Just my two cents.

You might take a look at the DeSantis Sky Cop Holsters. The are made for several gun types and accomdate access when seated.

Sky Cop Holsters. I don't have any idea about this brand. Please show me here some of their products...

Tom, I agree with considering smaller gun for traveling (also all day carry). I’ve read comments on how much more effective the big bore guns are, but, comfort and concealment during summer or winter is absolutely essential for motivation to carry at all times. My preference is Ruger LCP or Kahr PM9 either of which I can carry in my Stealth Defense Strut holster for all day sitting comfort and concealment .

I agree. I carry my Ruger LCP whenever I am in those situations. Perfect little pocket carry pistol.

Strongly suggest crossdraw. Than if you need to get out of car, button jacket or shirt no problem. Shoulder rig is good also.

My problem with crossdraw is that often times my wife will want to "snuggle" up next to me when we are out and about, and she likes to be on THAT side - complains that it pokes her in "sensitive" areas...

I just have gotten used to the IWB on the draw side. I take it out and put in a carrying sleeve then tuck between my seat and the gear shift/cup holder when on long drives. On road trips, it usually will go in the case elsewhere in the vehicle and I will retrieve when making stops (if legal to take outside the vehicle of course...).
